Does McCain really offer straight talk?
Lobbyists and special interests run his candidacy. Only Hillary is more indebted to them.
IMO, McCain vs Hillary would be a nightmare. Two Washington insiders serving the special interests.
Please vote for Obama, Romney, Paul, or Huckabee.
He offered it in Iowa and New Hampshire. He tried to offer it in Michigan, too.
But when he saw that Huckabee was overtaking him in South Carolina and that Romney was overtaking him in Florida, he switched gears. Suddenly, you could hardly listen to a sentence out of his mouth without hearing the word "conservative" in it. He keeps talking about how he’s always been conservative, and he has so many conservative supporters, and his record is so conservative, and his opponents aren’t really conservative enough, and how if you want a conservative then you should vote for McCain.
That’s not the message he was spouting from the Straight Talk Express in NH. People there weren’t looking for a conservative. They wanted someone who was more independent. Unfortunately, the rest of Republican country still wants a conservative, so McCain has disembarked from the train.
His shift on the illegal immigration issue is pretty much suspect, too, in my mind. He said, "It’s clear that the American people want the border secured first, so that’s what I’m going to do." Straight talk? More like poll-driven. He couldn’t have cared less about what voters thought when he was writing McCain-Kennedy; just like he didn’t care when he wrote McCain-Feingold or McCain-Lieberman.
But now, all of a sudden, he wants to do what the people want? I thought he just wanted to do the right thing.
as opposed to gay talk?

McCain has flip-flopped on too many issues, such as Bush’s tax cuts and annual budgets.
Below answerer, I agree with you. But our administration did, stupidly, lower taxes for the rich during our time at war.

Obama, yes, the other three that you support, no.
To the person above who says McCain flip-flopped on taxes: aren’t Republicans supposed to be fiscally conservative? Don’t you have to pay more money (taxes) if you increase spending (on wars)?

It’s always a relative term when you talk about politicians. I think Romney or Huckabee would be a nightmare.

You are so right. McCain and Hillary are almost political twins. When I think about the possibility of either of them in the White House it makes me cringe.

No he absolutely does not. And he doesn’t offer anymore in person than he does in tv. I was down in Atlanta for a Ron Paul rally Saturday & we found out McCain was speaking later that afternoon, so we went to the event. Mostly for kicks, but also to talk to the *astounding* number of undecideds that were present at McCain’s speaking. It didn’t surprise my friend and I how little McCain actually SAID, but all the undecideds we encountered seemed to dislike him more after hearing his speech. I also found myself disliking him even more (if that’s possible). I’m glad I went though because I got a better feel for his campaign, for just how on-the-fence his "supporters" actually are, and for how little straight talk he gives (none).

McCain put together an amnesty bill with Kennedy, and now his ads have him saying he will close the boarders and build a fence. He says he will ALWAYS tell the truth. Whatever his truth is this week. He’s a lier.

Yes, he does. The jobs are not coming back. We will be in Iraq for 100 years. Our gasoline will be taxed an extra 50 cents/gallon. And he will use the satellites to give every illegal alien free HBO.
