Wireless Card/USB for Windows 98 laptop?

I bought a Windows 98 operating Compaq laptop, in good condition.
I tried using my mothers linksys wireless card, but it was not 98 compatible.
I went to Staples and talked with a customer service rep. and ended up buying a Windows 98SE compatible USB receiver.

When I attempted to install the software disk it asked for the Windows 98 disk, which didn’t come with the computor.

I then tried to hook it straight up to my router via ethernet cable…but the laptop doesnt have the hook-up for ethernet.

Any advice on what I can try to get on the internet?

If you have no 98 disk, you really need to load a new OS. Anything you need to change on 98 normally requires inserting the disk. Due to likely limitations in resources you should try to get a Windows 2000 disk.

  1. it would be better if you upgrade to (at least) windows 2000

  2. Get a newer computer (or operating system). Most ISP’s and most wireless cards will not support Windows 98. Windows 98 is a dinosuar.

PS. you get what you pay for

    Goodluck
